Andover Township, New Jersey, was created from portions of neighboring towns Newton and Fredon. Although the origin of the name is uncertain, it is believed the town was named after Andover, Hampshire, England. It is best known as the location of Camp Nordland, a gathering place owned by an American Nazi organization named the German American Bund. The camp was shut down by the government after Germany had declared war on the United States during the start of World War II. The property is now called Hillside Park.
