Former U.S. Rep. Matthew A. Cartwright (D-8th) brings more than three decades of legal and legislative experience to Munley Law. A former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Matt has rejoined Munley Law as Of Counsel, where he provides strategic insight into complex litigation, regulatory matters, and public policy issues that impact individuals and businesses across Pennsylvania and beyond.
Before his decade of service in Congress, Matt practiced law at Munley Law in Northeastern Pennsylvania for over 25 years. As a trial attorney, he represented victims of negligence, consumers, and small businesses in high-stakes civil litigation. His advocacy on behalf of injured individuals earned him recognition among his peers and induction into the International Society of Barristers, one of the most prestigious trial lawyer organizations in the nation. He also served on the Board of Governors of the American Association for Justice and frequently lectured on trial practice and consumer rights.
Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012, Matt represented Pennsylvania’s 12th and 8th Congressional District for six consecutive terms. During his tenure, he served on the House Appropriations Committee and chaired the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies, overseeing funding for key national programs, including the Department of Justice and NASA. He also co-chaired the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, where he played a leadership role in advancing legislative initiatives on infrastructure, veterans’ rights, energy, and consumer protection.
At the firm, Matt draws on his rare combination of courtroom and congressional experience to advise clients on litigation strategy, regulatory compliance, and governmental affairs. His deep understanding of how law and policy intersect allows him to anticipate challenges and craft effective, results-oriented solutions.
