Kansas City Boy Dies in Tractor Trailer Crash as His Mother Flees from Police

A Kansas City mother driving a Kia Optima, with her two children as passengers in the rear-seat, was fleeing from the police and slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer killing her 8-year-old son.  The police had tried to stop the mother only minutes earlier after she almost hit them while they were conducting a traffic stop. She initially stopped, and then as police approached her car, she sped away – the police abandoned the chase and were not pursuing her at the time of the wreck.  The mother is left with life-threatening injuries.  Her 11-year old daughter suffered minor injuries.

CHP Officer Dies in Car Accident

California Highway Patrol Officer Thomas Adams was killed Tuesday in an automobile accident on Highway 101 in California.  The officer, who was on-duty, was driving north outside of Piercy when his car was struck head-on by a southbound vehicle. The officer was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver and the passenger of the other vehicle, a 2004 Toyota Tundra, were taken to Jerold Phelps Community Hospital in Garberville and later released.  It is unclear which vehicle crossed the center line.

Multi-Car Crash Kills 5 in Colorado

A devastating multi-car crash in the Denver, Colorado suburb of Thornton has left 5 people dead and 4 others injured.  A Ford Expedition, which was being driven erratically in the southbound lanes of the highway, crossed the median into the northbound lanes, rear-ended a Mazda sedan, went airborne and landed on top of a pickup truck with 5 passengers, killing everyone in the truck.  The Mazda ran into a mattress store resulting in minor injuries to a store employee.  The injured victims were hospitalized.  Investigators are still trying to determine what led up to the crash.

 

Valentine’s Day Accident Results in Death of 18-Year-Old

A head-on collision Monday involving a passenger car and a pickup truck has left an 18-year-old woman dead and her boyfriend hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.  The two vehicles were traveling on Grier Nursery Road in Jarrettsville, Maryland, when the car crossed the center line crashing into the pickup truck. The driver of the truck, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.  Neither the driver nor the passenger of the car was wearing a seatbelt.  The passenger of the car had to be extricated, and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the car, the deceased woman’s boyfriend, is facing charges, although the investigation is ongoing.
