What is the Known Loss Rule?
The known loss rule is an insurance principle providing that a loss the policyholder already knew had occurred, or was substantially certain would occur, before the policy took effect isn’t covered. It’s intended to prevent someone from purchasing insurance to cover a loss they already know about.
