What is Standard of Care?

The standard of care is the level of skill and diligence that a reasonably competent person or professional, such as a doctor or driver, is expected to exercise in a given situation. In a negligence or malpractice claim, a plaintiff must generally show that the standard of care was breached and that the breach caused their injury.
