Any licensed attorney can legally represent you in a truck accident case. But not every attorney has the specialized knowledge, courtroom experience, and verified credentials that a complex commercial vehicle case demands. In this video, board-certified truck accident attorney Marion Munley explains what board certification actually means and why it matters.

Board certification for truck accident attorneys is issued by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA), a nonprofit organization that sets rigorous standards for trial lawyers. To become board certified in truck accident law, an attorney must demonstrate substantial trial experience, pass a comprehensive written examination covering federal trucking regulations and litigation strategy, and receive favorable evaluations from judges and other attorneys who have observed their work. This is not an honorary title — it is earned through demonstrated competence, and only a small percentage of practicing attorneys hold it.
For truck accident victims, hiring a board-certified attorney carries real advantages. A certified attorney has proven knowledge of FMCSA regulations — the federal rules governing commercial trucking. They know how to identify violations in a driver’s hours-of-service records, vehicle maintenance logs, and inspection reports. They understand how trucking companies defend these cases and how to counter those defenses effectively.
Certified attorneys also have documented trial experience. This matters because trucking companies and their insurers are more likely to offer fair settlements when they know the attorney on the other side has successfully tried cases before a jury — not just settled them.
Munley Law is the only firm in Pennsylvania with three board-certified truck accident lawyers: Marion Munley, Daniel Munley, and Katie Nealon. Marion and Daniel are both also members of the Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys’ Board of Regents. Marion Munley was the first woman to chair the AAJ’s Trucking Litigation Group and is a member of the Summit Council — an invitation-only organization requiring at least one $10 million jury verdict as lead counsel.
