What should I do immediately after an accident or injury?

Put safety and medical care first. Call 911 when appropriate, report the incident to the police, property owner, employer, or other responsible party, and obtain an evaluation even if symptoms initially seem manageable. If it is safe, photograph the scene and injuries, identify witnesses, preserve damaged property, and keep copies of reports, bills, discharge papers, and insurance communications.
Give accurate facts, but avoid guessing about fault or minimizing your condition. Do not post details, photos, or activity updates about the incident on social media, and do not sign a release before understanding its effect. Notify the insurers you are required to notify and consider getting legal advice before giving a recorded statement to an adverse insurer.
