The Dangers of Speeding in Philadelphia

This accident is a warning to avoid driving at high speeds on the crowded city streets of Philadelphia. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding is one of the top causes of car accidents in the United States. Recent numbers from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reveal over 23,000 speed-related accidents in the Commonwealth in 2023, resulting in 366 fatalities. These numbers reflect a worrisome increase in speed-related fatalities in the past five years — speeding fatalities have increased 38.6% since 2019.

Unfortunately, motorcyclists are more likely to be involved in a fatal speeding car accident. The NHTSA states that the fatality rate for motorcyclists is 22 times more than for a passenger car occupant. Of the number of motorcyclists who died in 2022, 35% of those involved in fatal crashes were speeding.

Motorcycle riders enjoy the freedom of the open road, but unfortunately, that freedom can be dangerous. Since motorcyclists have little protection compared to car occupants, they must be extra careful when riding. Our Philadelphia motorcycle accident lawyers want to remind motorcycle riders to follow speed limits, watch traffic flow, and avoid weaving through traffic are some tips to keep in mind when riding through the streets in Philadelphia.
