If you need a Catasauqua, PA personal injury lawyer, the experienced attorneys at Munley Law® Personal Injury Attorneys are here to help.
A suburb of Allentown, Pennsylvania, Catasauqua has a long history as a power center of American manufacturing, in part because the town borders the Lehigh River. A small but significant Lehigh County borough, Catasuaqua has used this geographic asset to its advantage since pre-Revolutionary War times. An early settlement for Scotch-Irish, German and Irish families in the early 1700s, the town was a farming community and site of a busy canal through which goods were transported to and from Philadelphia. In 1839, “Catty,” as it is known by locals, became the first town in the U.S. to manufacture anthracite iron, making it the cradle of America’s Industrial Revolution.
Manufacturing drove Catasauqua’s economy through the mid-19th century, thanks to factories producing silk, coal and candy. In 1900, the town had the highest concentration of millionaires per capita in the nation at the time. Additionally, during World War I in 1917, Catasauqua, was the nation’s first community to raise $1 million in war bonds, this feat led to its nickname, “The Million Dollar Town.”
In addition to its manufacturing fame, Catasauqua is the hometown of well-known political, military and sports figures who have made a national mark, among them George Taylor, a signer of the Declaration of Independence; Thomas Lynch, a well-known World War II P-38 Triple Ace fighter pilot; and a host of notable professional athletes, including former baseball players Buck Freeman, Pat Kelly, Bert Kuczynski and current-day baseball pro Anthony Recker; football player Jonathan Linton; and basketball’s Larry Miller.
Although contemporary Catasauqua is a quiet residential community, it is surrounded by major highways, including the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Interstate 78, U.S. 22 and Pennsylvania Routes 309 and 33. These roadways are heavy-traffic thoroughfares – and, as such, dangerous sites of tragic auto accidents. Cars, trucks and tractor trailers traveling at high speeds can cause tragic accidents.
