Munley Law truck accident attorneys Marion Munley and Robert W. Munley III secured an $8 million settlement for a deadly truck accident that ended the life of an active-duty Marine and father of two.
Our client was home for his sister’s wedding. He was stopped behind a tanker truck, which, in turn, was stopped behind another tanker truck at a stop sign. Behind them, a driver operating a straight tanker truck weighing 78,000 pounds lost control of the vehicle and failed to stop. He hit our client’s vehicle and propelled it forward until it was trapped and compressed between two trucks, ultimately causing a four-vehicle collision.
The collision caused the Marine’s vehicle and the tanker truck to burst into flames. Our client suffered catastrophic injury and severe burns, which resulted in great pain, suffering, and ultimately his death.
Marion and Robert Munley outlined how the defendants caused the accident with negligent and reckless conduct, including driving too closely, driving while distracted, and failing to properly oversee the driver and vehicle for adequate safety. Eyewitnesses testified that they did not hear or see the driver honk or swerve to evade the crash. Indeed, the driver admitted that he tried to downshift while going downhill and missed the gear while riding his brakes, losing control of the tanker—the opposite of what properly trained drivers are taught to do.
Munley Law was honored to represent the widow and her two young children. “The settlement ensures that they will be able to live their lives in the manner that their father envisioned for them,” Marion Munley says.
