Not all workers’ compensation attorneys in Pennsylvania hold the same credentials. Caroline Munley of Munley Law is a certified specialist in workers’ compensation law — one of a limited number of Pennsylvania attorneys who have met the state’s requirements and passed the certification exam. In this video, she explains exactly what that process involves and what it means for the people she represents.
Not every workers’ compensation attorney in Pennsylvania is a certified specialist — and the difference matters more than most injured workers realize.
To earn the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s workers’ compensation specialist certification, an attorney must meet a set of experience requirements before they can even sit for the exam. That means a minimum number of workers’ comp cases handled, a minimum number of depositions taken, specific types of petitions filed, and work with expert witnesses and judges at multiple levels. Once those requirements are satisfied, the attorney sits for a full-day written examination. Pass the exam, and the certification is earned.
Caroline Munley has held that certification for years. She is one of a small number of attorneys in Pennsylvania who have gone through that process.
What This Means For Your Workers’ Comp Case
When you hire a certified specialist, you’re working with an attorney who has demonstrated a specific and verifiable depth of experience in workers’ comp law. They’ve handled the types of claims that get complicated — disputes over medical treatment, average weekly wage calculation errors, termination of benefits, and appeals before the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board and Commonwealth Court.
Workers’ comp is a distinct area of law with its own courts, judges, and procedures. It’s not a sub-specialty of personal injury — it operates entirely differently. An attorney who handles it at the level required for certification brings a different level of preparation to your case from day one.
