Snow storm threatens Thanksgiving travelers: 5 tips to stay safe

icyHolidays are hectic. Whether you’re planning on cooking or traveling, we know you already have a lot on your plate! So, below are some quick tips to staying safe this Thanksgiving.

This year, about 46 million Americans are expected to be on the road on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, as reported by NBC News. Unfortunately, a snowstorm is predicted for the same day. The snow is expected to accumulate between 1-5 inches in Pennsylvania and New York, and up to 10 inches in parts of Massachusetts.
WNEP reports that the storm is cause for concern for many college students in our area trying to get home for the upcoming holiday, and for travelers all over the country planning to visit loved ones.
Check this out: The Washington Post has composed a regionally-focused outline of when and where the snow will affect people on the road.
If at all possible, avoid traveling on Wednesday, November 26, when the traffic and the weather will be at their worst. If you must take to the roads on Wednesday, here are 5 tips from the personal injury lawyers at Munley Law Personal Injury Attorneys to help you reach your destination safely.

5 Things to Remember:
1. Plan for delays. Check weather forecasts ahead of time, and plan for your trip to take longer than usual. Check directions before departing, in case GPS devices lose signal
2. Turn your headlights on during inclement weather – this helps you to better see other vehicles and to help them see you
3. Make sure you have emergency supplies: spare tire, salt, snow/ice scraper or brush, flashlight and batteries, jumper cables, snow shovel, food and water in case of a breakdown
4. Before embarking on your trip, check your tire pressure and wiper blades
5. Maintain a safe speed – slippery conditions and reduced visibility make it extremely important to travel at a safe speed and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you
