FL Accident Kills One, Leaves Five Critically Injured
A multi-vehicle crash over the weekend in Frostproof, Florida left one person dead and five others critically injured. The Miami Herald reports that a vehicle on U.S. 27 northbound ran off the roadway, overcorrected and spun around sending it into the southbound lanes where it collided with two other vehicles. The driver of the out-of-control vehicle died; her two passengers were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Three occupants of the other vehicles were listed in critical condition. Police were continuing to investigate the accident.
Heart Attack Kills Driver of Rock Band Bus in Iowa
According to the Ames Tribune, the driver of the charter bus for the rock band Widespread Panic apparently suffered a heart attack while driving the bus on Interstate 35 last week south of Ames, Iowa. The band was en-route to C.Y. Stephens Auditorium at Iowa State University in Ames for a show that night. Another band member was able to take the wheel and bring the bus to a stop. The driver died. Two subsequent multi-vehicle accidents due to “rubbernecking” left one person in critical condition. A 10-mile stretch of I-35 was closed after the bus accident and the two crashes.
FL Man Dies in Head-On DUI Accident
A drunk driver died in a head-on collision in Vero Beach, FL over the weekend. The driver who initially side-swiped two vehicles on 58th avenue, left two people injured, four vehicles disabled and a multi-hour road closure in his wake. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene after he crossed the center line on 49th Street and collided head-on with another vehicle. The two injured were treated for minor injuries at the nearby hospital. The police closed 58th Avenue between 45th and 49th streets for nearly two hours, and closed 49th Street near 51st Court for at least three hours.
Pedestrian Dies in NJ Accident
WPVI TV reports a 13-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle Tuesday night in Egg Harbor Twp, NJ resulting in fatal injuries. The boy was crossing the road on English Creek Avenue near Jake Glassey Driver when a southbound vehicle hit him. The boy, who suffered from head and leg injuries, was airlifted to the hospital where he later died. Police are continuing to investigate, but have not yet filed any charges.
