Multi-Car Crash Injures Over 30 in Missouri

I-64 at Vandeventer in downtown St. Louis was the site of a multi-car wreck involving 31 vehicles and sending 20 people to area hospitals.  The accident occurred at 5 a.m. Wednesday morning after the untreated highway became coated with a light sheet of ice leaving the roadways extremely treacherous.   Several rescuer workers also became part of the wreck as two fire trucks, two ambulances and a supervisor’s car were unable to stop before being damaged and caught up in the wreckage.  MoDOT blames the weather forecasters for missing the precipitation and leaving them unprepared to treat the roads.

Stranded Motorist Dies, Nine Others Injured in Fatal Car Accident in Raleigh, NC  

A multi-car accident Wednesday night on I-40 in Raleigh, North Carolina left one woman dead and nine others injured.  The driver of a vehicle that had stopped in the center lane got out of her car to ask for help from another stopped motorist.  A chain-reaction accident then occurred as three other vehicles crashed, involving the two stopped cars as well.  The woman who had left her car was killed in the accident.  Police are investigating the cause of the accident that left traffic tied up for nearly four hours after the wreck.

Suspected in California Accident

A driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing into another car leaving the driver injured and three lanes of traffic blocked for an hour on westbound I-91 in Buena Park, California.  The Tuesday morning accident, which occurred at 3 a.m., involved a 40 minute extrication process to remove the injured man from the vehicle.

New Mexico Man Dies in Single-Car Rollover Accident

 A Columbus, New Mexico man died Monday evening from injuries he sustained in an accident in which his 2005 Ford pickup left State Road 9 and rolled sideways about 250 feet before coming to rest.  The Las-Cruces Sun-News reported the truck was the only vehicle involved in the accident. The driver was wearing a seatbelt.  Police said there is no indication that either alcohol or speeding were factors in the accident.  An autopsy will be performed on the man to determine if a medical issue contributed to the accident.
