Juniata County Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash on Route 35 Kills One, Injures Three Others

Juniata County, PA – One person was killed and three others were injured when a van crashed along Route 35 in Juniata County early Tuesday morning, forcing authorities to close the roadway for nearly five hours across multiple townships.

The deadly single-vehicle crash occurred around 5:10 a.m. on Route 35 south near Route 333, involving only the van with no other vehicles contributing to the collision, according to the Mifflintown Hose Company. Their identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members and completion of the investigation.

Another person was transported to Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital with “moderate injuries,” while two other people suffered minor injuries and did not need to be transported from the scene. Route 35 was closed between Route 333 and the roundabout at Main Street and William Penn Highway for nearly five hours, stretching across Milford Township, Mifflin Borough and Fermanagh Township.

Single-vehicle crashes in the early morning hours often involve factors like reduced visibility, driver fatigue, and changing road conditions that can contribute to loss of vehicle control. The extended closure indicates the complexity of the scene and the thoroughness required for the investigation as Pennsylvania State Police work to determine contributing factors.

When multiple occupants are involved in a single-vehicle crash, questions may arise regarding insurance coverage, liability, and compensation for injuries and wrongful death. Vehicle defects, poor road maintenance, or infrastructure issues might play a role in single-vehicle crashes. In fatal crashes, surviving family members may be entitled to compensation for funeral expenses, lost future earnings, and pain and suffering.
