Robert W. Munley named to the 2015 Irish Legal 100
We are so pleased to announce that our father and founder, Robert W. Munley, has been selected to the Irish Legal 100, an annual honor recognizing the top 100 American lawyers of Irish descent.
Robert W. Munley founded our firm in 1959. Since then, he has had a powerful influence on the legal field in Pennsylvania. A trail-blazer for future attorneys, he was among the very first attorneys in the state to adopt a focus on cases involving injuries and death caused by commercial trucks, and he has been instrumental in the development of the field of truck accident litigation as we know it today.
Among the most important legacies our founder has passed on is his commitment to helping those who need it most. As a plaintiffs’ firm, we are dedicated to obtaining justice for victims of injury and loss. But Robert Munley has always extended his advocacy for the powerless beyond the courtroom. Twenty-nine years ago, he began the Munleys’ involvement with the Family to Family Thanksgiving Food Basket Program, providing food baskets to disadvantaged families in Lackawanna County so that they may have holiday dinners in their own homes. He has endowed scholarships at Landmark College in Vermont, as well as Marywood University and the University of Scranton, providing grants for students who wish to pursue a career in law or politics. And, the Lackawanna Bar Association has established the Robert W. Munley Distinguished Service Award in acknowledgment of his extensive pro bono work on behalf of those who could not otherwise afford legal help. The award is given annually to an individual or organization who has demonstrated outstanding service to the community.
Mr. Munley will celebrate at a reception hosted by the Irish Ambassador to the U.S. Anne Anderson, at her home in Washington, D.C. on October 22.
We can’t think of anyone more deserving of such recognition for a lifetime of achievement and service.
