An insurance policy is a contract in which an individual or entity (the policyholder) pays an insurance company (the insurer) in regular payments in exchange for financial protection over specific risks or losses. For example, medical insurance helps to cover medical costs, such as hospital visits, hospital stays, and medications. Similarly, auto insurance helps to cover damages incurred from car accidents. Insurance payments are known as premiums. Insurance contracts typically limit the amount of costs that an insurance provider may be required to pay.
The McCarran-Ferguson Act (15 U.S.C. § 1011) grants many aspects of insurance regulation to individual state governments. However, federal laws like federal taxes do apply to insurance, and must be acknowledged. Aspinwall, PA – Woman in Critical Condition After Being Hit by SUV
Aspinwall, PA (February 5, 2025) – An elderly woman was rushed to the hospital after she was hit by an SUV while crossing the street in Aspinwall, PA on February 5.
According to news reports, Allegheny County police responded to a call around 7 a.m. of a pedestrian accident in Aspinwall. Police say the woman was crossing Delafield Road towards St. Margaet Drive near UPMC St. Margaret’s Hospital when she was struck by an SUV making a left turn from Freeport Road.
The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the police.
Police are continue to investigate the accident.

Philadelphia, PA (January 31, 2025) – A medical jet carrying six people crashed into a Philadelphia neighborhood on January 31.
According to news reports, the plane was transporting a child patient, her mother, and four crew members. The plane was heading to Springfield, Missouri.
The plane left the Northeast Philadelphia Airport around 6 p.m. before crashing less than four miles away. It crashed into the ground and sparking a huge fireball.
Several buildings and vehicles were lit on fire, injuring several people on the ground. There were no survivors in the aircraft.
Investigations are underway as to what caused the accident. The accident comes just days after an airplane collided with a Black Hawk helicopter in Washington, DC.

Harrisburg, PA – Man Flees Traffic Stop, Causing Six-Car Accident
Harrisburg, PA (January 29, 2005) – A man trying to flee a traffic stop caused a multi-vehicle accident on January 26 in Harrisburg.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, troopers pulled over the driver on 17th Street in Harrisburg and noticed he was trying to hide items as they asked for his ID. When the man refused to leave the vehicle, investigators say the trooper tried to break the window.
The man then reversed his SUV into the police cruiser and drove off, hitting another car on 21st Street and causing a six-vehicle crash. He was taken into custody.

A man had been hit by a plow truck after leaving a doctor’s appointment in Hempfield Township on January 6. According to news reports, a wintry mix had fallen throughout the area in the morning. Uber Passenger Dies After Driver Crashes Into Tractor Trailer in Philadelphia
An Uber passenger died after her Uber driver crashed into a tractor trailer on December 31 in Philadelphia. According to news reports, the crash happened at Nedro and Ogontz Avenues around 10:45 p.m. when the driver crashed the vehicle into a parked truck. Video footage shows the front passenger side was squeezed partially underneath the tractor-trailer.
