What are Parties?
Parties are individuals, corporations, or associations involved in a lawsuit as plaintiffs or defendants.
According to Black’s Law Dictionary, parties are defined as “persons or entities actively participating in a transaction or proceeding.” Due to the formal nature of the proceedings, each party has specific rights, duties, and interests related to the legal matter. Parties can include plaintiffs or those bringing the lawsuit, and defendants, those who refute the allegations; they can also include third-party defendants who are asserted as being partially responsible for the plaintiff’s claims.
The most important responsibility of a party is the burden of proof. In a civil case, this falls to the plaintiff. Understanding the roles and identities of the parties is crucial for determining legal responsibilities, enforcing rights, and reaching resolutions in disputes.

Car Accident Lawyers Questions & Answers
Car Accident Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: If I’ve Been in a Car Accident, do I Need a Lawyer?
A: It depends. If you did not suffer any injuries in the accident, you may settle your insurance claim without need for legal help. However, if you or someone you know were injured in the accident, the claim becomes more complicated. As the injured victim, you have the right to seek compensation from the at-fault party for your medical costs, pain and suffering, and other losses. Insurance companies have high-paid lawyers and experts who will fight against you to make sure you get as little money as possible. Statistically, people represented by lawyers get three times more settlement money than people who do it themselves. So, while you don’t need a lawyer, having legal representation can ensure that you receive the compensation you are owed. […]

It’s your money and they want it now!
As seen in the Northeast Pennsylvania Business Journal.
By J. Christopher Munley
We all have seen the hard-hitting television commercials decrying: “It’s your money and you want it now!” These get-your-cash now ads, while seemingly helpful to those experiencing financial hardship, prey on individuals who have money in structured settlements.
They may seem too good to be true — and in most instances they are. What these ads don’t disclose is that the realized value to you now of this money owed to you in the future will be less than the amounts in the settlement, sometimes up to 40 percent less.
The ads are designed and created by companies that are in the business of purchasing structured settlements, otherwise known as “factoring companies,” and it is their goal to entice structured settlements holders to sell their settlements in exchange for a lump sum payment at the “present value” of the structure.
