PA Accident Takes Life of College Student
The Scranton Times Tribune reports a 20-year-old driver died in a fiery wreck on I-81 Saturday. The accident occurred near mile-marker 211 in Susquehanna County, PA around 2:30 a.m. as the young man passed through the state on his way to Ithaca College. The car went off the right side of the highway then hit a rock embankment before coming to rest on the highway’s shoulder on the driver’s side of the car. The vehicle became engulfed in flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
NC Legislator Involved in Fatal Car Accident
One man is dead and a North Carolina state legislator is in critical condition after their two cars collided late Friday night in Winston-Salem, NC. Police report that the 70-year-old NC representative, who was driving an Acura, apparently crossed the center line of Reynolds Park Road crashing head-on into a convertible, driven by a 54-year-old man. The man driving the convertible was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was involved in the accident.
Fatal VA Accident
According to WDBJ7.com, the 35-year-old driver of a car was killed upon impact with a tractor-trailer Friday morning in Floyd County, Virginia. The driver of the car was apparently attempting to pass a car on a double yellow line when he hit the tractor-trailer head-on. The accident shut down Route 8 for several hours. The tractor-trailer driver was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
FL Crash Kills Newspaper Founder
The Long Beach Post reports their co-founder and publisher, Shaun Lumachi, died in a two-car crash late Saturday night in Miami, FL where he traveled to attend a conference. Lumachi was the back-seat passenger in a rental car when a pickup truck heading in the opposite direction veered across the center line and struck the side of the car where Lumachi was sitting. The driver and second passenger in the car were treated for minor injuries. The pickup-truck driver, traveling with an infant, apparently fell asleep at the wheel. Neither he nor the baby was injured.
