There are lots of pet owners among us here at Munley Law Personal Injury Attorneys, so we know that dogs can be the best of companions. But, driving with pets in tow can lead to distracted driving accidents.
Over half of all pet owners report bringing their pet for a car ride at least once a month, and one-third of pet owners do so at least once a week. When bringing your furry friend along for the ride, it’s important to keep safety in mind in order to protect you, your passengers, other motorists, and your pet, too.

The hashtag #whiledriving shows a disturbing trend

One of the more idiotic and dangerous trends to develop recently is the hashtag #whiledriving.
Erie Insurance, a Pennsylvania insurance company, published a study of social media data showing a surge in the use of the hashtag, reflecting a growing number of drivers who pull out their phones, take a picture, and post it to Twitter and Instagram – all while driving. Most of the posts were photos of nature, clouds, a sunset, traffic, and selfies.
The top U.S. states with the most posts using #whiledriving were:
- California
- Florida
- Texas
- South Carolina
- New York
- Illinois
- Massachusetts
- Oregon
- Colorado
- Nevada
No selfie or picture of the sunset is worth putting your life or someone else’s life in danger. […]

Marion Munley Receives the 2016 Lynette Norton Award

The Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) is pleased to announce that Marion Munley of Munley Law Personal Injury Attorneys has been selected as the 2016 Lynette Norton Award Honoree. Attorney Munley will receive her award at the PBA Commission on Women in the Profession Annual Conference on May 11, at the Hershey Lodge in Hershey, PA.
The Lynette Norton Award honors and recognizes a female attorney who excels in litigation and is devoted to mentoring other women in the legal profession. The award is named for Lynette Norton, a founding member of the PBA’s Commission on Women in the Profession (WIP). Before her sudden passing in 2002, Norton was a mentor to young women attorneys, favored such causes as women’s rights and literacy, and fought discrimination against women in the profession.

Amtrak Crash Near Philadelphia Kills 2, Injures 30+

Two rail employees dead, over 35 passengers injured in tragic Amtrak crash
AMTRAK CRASH – Safety practices are coming into question after an Amtrak train struck a backhoe, killing two rail workers who were on the wrong track at the wrong time.
Almost one year after Amtrak train 188 derailed near Philadelphia in the deadliest train wreck in Amtrak’s history, another fatal Amtrak crash occurred just outside Philadelphia on Sunday morning. The crash killed the backhoe operator and supervisor, and wounded more than 35 passengers.
The train was headed from New York to Savannah. GA, when it encountered the equipment on the track. The engineer applied the brake but in not nearly enough time to avoid a collision, as the locomotive was traveling at 106 miles per hour (in a 100 MPH zone).

Johnson & Johnson to pay $72 million in cancer lawsuit

Baby powder found to contain cancer-causing ingredient, talcum powder
A Missouri jury has awarded $72 million to the family of Jacqueline Fox, a woman who died of ovarian cancer she says was caused by decades of using Johnson’s baby powder, which contains talc.
A pathologist found that Fox’s ovaries showed talc inflammation which later turned to cancer. Jacqueline Fox was one of more than 1000 people who filed suit against Johnson & Johnson for failing to warn customers about the dangers associated with talcum powder, but her case was the first to result in monetary compensation.
