Single-Vehicle Accidents in Pennsylvania
Single-vehicle accidents in Pennsylvania represent a significant portion of all traffic incidents in the Commonwealth, with these crashes often occurring on rural roads and highways. These accidents frequently involve vehicles leaving the roadway, particularly during adverse weather conditions like snow, ice, or heavy rain, which are common in Pennsylvania’s climate. Fatigue and distracted driving are major contributing factors, especially during nighttime hours and early morning commutes.
Young drivers aged 16-24 are disproportionately involved in single-vehicle crashes in Pennsylvania, with these incidents often occurring during late night hours and weekends. Road conditions unique to Pennsylvania, such as steep grades in mountainous regions and numerous curves on rural roads, can contribute to these accidents. Many single-vehicle crashes involve collisions with fixed objects like trees, utility poles, or guardrails, particularly where roads wind through forested regions.
Dealing with the insurance for a single-vehicle accident may be difficult. Since Pennsylvania is a “choice no-fault” state, your insurance company will pay for your accident regardless of fault. Your Personal Injury Protection, or PIP, will cover your medical expenses. For the property damage, your insurance’s collision coverage will be the primary source of compensation. Without this coverage, you will be responsible for your vehicle repairs.
