One Seriously Injured Following a Rollover Crash in Centre County, PA
One person was flown to the hospital after a rollover car accident in Centre County, Pennsylvania, on January 9.
According to news reports, emergency officials were called to the scene of a car accident around the 3400 block of Penns Valley Pike between the Gregg Township and Potter Township line. Emergency personnel said the SUV had rolled over several times before crashing into a nearby field near Weaver Road and Penns Valley Road. Witnesses say the woman was violently ejected from the vehicle after it had launched several feet into the area.
The woman was taken to the hospital via a helicopter, but her condition is unknown at this time.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
The Severity of Rollover Car Accidents
Rollovers are among the most dangerous types of car accidents. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, there were 4,642 rollover car crashes in Pennsylvania in 2023, resulting in 146 fatalities. PennDOT further found that crashes involving pickups, minivans, and SUVs are more likely to roll over than passenger vehicles; in fact, the percentage of rollover accidents for SUVs, vans, and pickups was double that of passenger vehicles.
Several factors commonly contribute to rollover accidents in Pennsylvania: excessive speed, particularly around curves; driver distraction or fatigue; overcorrecting after drifting from the intended lane; and poor vehicle maintenance, especially regarding tire condition and pressure. The presence of cargo, particularly when improperly secured or unevenly distributed, can also affect a vehicle’s stability and increase rollover risk.
Survival rates in rollover crashes often correlate strongly with seatbelt usage. Pennsylvania law enforcement and safety officials emphasize that properly restrained occupants have a significantly better chance of surviving a rollover crash compared to unbelted passengers, who may be ejected from the vehicle during the incident.
When injured in a rollover collision, victims have the right to seek compensation for medical expenses and lost wages. Yet even in clear-cut cases where the victim bears no fault, insurance companies may resist covering long-term care costs, lost income, and reduced future earning potential, especially in cases involving serious injuries or permanent disability.
A qualified Pennsylvania car accident attorney can help protect your rights and pursue fair compensation when dealing with reluctant insurance companies. An experienced legal team can thoroughly investigate your case, determine liability, and work to secure the compensation you deserve. This is particularly important in complex cases involving severe injuries or wrongful death.
