Head-On Car Accidents in Lycoming County
Head-on collisions in Pennsylvania are among the most severe types of motor vehicle accidents, often resulting in catastrophic injuries or fatalities due to the combined force of vehicles traveling in opposite directions. Under Pennsylvania law, these accidents frequently involve complex liability determinations, particularly when considering the state’s choice no-fault insurance system where drivers first turn to their own insurance coverage regardless of fault.
From a personal injury standpoint, victims of head-on collisions often sustain serious injuries including traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, internal organ trauma, and complex fractures. These injuries typically result in substantial medical expenses, extended rehabilitation periods, and significant lost wages, all of which can be recovered through various legal channels.
Common causes of head-on collisions that may support a personal injury claim include distracted driving, drunk driving, improper passing on two-lane roads, and wrong-way driving on highways. Evidence collection is particularly crucial in these cases, including police reports, witness statements, surveillance footage, and accident reconstruction expert testimony to establish fault and maximize potential compensation.
In terms of damages, Pennsylvania courts may award both economic and non-economic compensation. Economic damages cover quantifiable losses like medical bills and lost income, while non-economic damages address pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of life’s pleasures. In cases involving particularly egregious conduct, such as drunk driving, punitive damages may also be available.
