Luzerne County, PA – Fatal Pedestrian Accident Claims Life on Route 309

LUZERNE COUNTY, PA (November 27, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred on November 26 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, when a pedestrian lost his life after being struck by a vehicle on Route 309. The accident occurred shortly before 7 pm near a busy commercial area where the highway intersects with the Home Depot entrance ramp.

According to Wilkes-Barre City Police Department officials, the man attempted to cross the highway toward Norm’s Pizza when a northbound vehicle struck the pedestrian. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him deceased shortly after arrival.

Law enforcement officials are withholding the deceased’s identity while they work to notify his family members, following standard protocol in such cases. According to authorities, a tractor-trailer was driving at full speed into stand-still traffic. The first impact was made to a sedan, causing it to veer into a traffic sign. The tractor-trailer continued and collided full force with a van, which was pushed into another tractor-trailer.

The van’s driver was caught between the two tractor-trailers, leading to severe impact and trauma. The Lebanon County Coroner’s office declared the van’s driver dead at the scene. A 22-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a vehicle turning left in Northeast Philadelphia on October 26. Clarks Summit Man Dies in Car Accident in Wayne County, PA

A 69-year-old Clarks Summit man lost his life on Oct. 18 in a violent car crash on Owego Turnpike after swerving to avoid a vehicle making a left turn. News reports stated the driver died hours after the crash, which occurred shortly before 3 p.m. in Wayne County’s Cherry Ridge Township.

According to state police at Honesdale, Palmieri swerved his vehicle into the westbound lane to prevent rear-ending the turning car ahead of him, leading to a head-on collision with an oncoming Buick. The occupants of the Buick sustained minor injuries and were hospitalized.

The driver was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries hours after the crash.
