Established by the Philadelphia and Reading Railway, the borough of Alburtis is a suburb of Allentown. The borough was named for civil engineer Edward K. Alburtis, who was involved in the construction of the railroad’s East Pennsylvania Branch. Alburtis is home to the Lock Ridge Furnace Complex, which was involved in much of the iron making in the area in the late 1800s.
